#BlackLivesMatter

Since its beginning in 1965, Niner United has been UNC Charlotte’s voice of hope. We have intentionally welcomed all as an inclusive campus ministry. When Keith Lamont Scott was killed by the police, a block from campus, Niner United stood firm that #BlackLivesMatter. We have continued to make a more positive difference by offering programs on campus about race and justice, the militarization of law enforcement, the privatization of prisons, and the vast injustices in our criminal justice system. Our board of directors and student leadership has always intended to be diverse, giving voice to all, and our ministry continues to challenge us in what Bishop Michael Curry states is the “way of love.” We are far from perfect, have failed to be obedient to the call of Jesus, and have so much more work to do. However, Jesus demonstrates the justice of God, and his Spirit compels us to not only resist, but fight against inequality. Thus, we become “the way of love” by boldly proclaiming #BlackLivesMatter.
